Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis on a Sliding Scale

The Clinic of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis offers psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy with highly trained, licensed mental health professionals.  Our clinicians offer expertise in treating a great range of problems, including difficulties in relationships, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety, and grief and loss.  Many of our clinicians offer sliding scale fees.

What is psychoanalysis?

Psychoanalysis is an intensive form of therapy with the aim of bringing about long-lasting change in oneself and one's life.  It is based on the theory that individuals are often unaware of many factors that influence their emotions and actions.  Psychoanalysis aims to increase self-awareness of these factors and develop a satisfactory level of control over them.  Such self-awareness often leads to increased self-acceptance, self-confidence, happiness, and increased creativity. What is psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy draws on the fundamental insights of psychoanalysis.  It can be more problem-focused and typically entails less frequent sessions than psychoanalysis.  Like psychoanalysis, it aims to contribute to one’s well-being and ability to manage one’s emotions and actions through enhanced self-awareness. To learn more about Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy click here.
