Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis on a Sliding Scale

The Clinic of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis offers psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy with highly trained, licensed mental health professionals. Clinicians treat a broad range of concerns, including relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief and loss. Many clinicians offer sliding-scale fees.

What Is Psychoanalysis?

Psychoanalysis is an intensive form of therapy intended to bring about lasting change in oneself and one’s life. It is based on the understanding that people are often unaware of factors influencing their emotions and actions.

Psychoanalysis seeks to increase awareness of these influences and help people develop greater control over them. This self-awareness may support increased self-acceptance, confidence, happiness and creativity.

What Is Psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy draws on the fundamental insights of psychoanalysis. It may be more focused on particular problems and typically involves less frequent sessions than psychoanalysis. Like psychoanalysis, it aims to improve well-being and the ability to manage emotions and actions through greater self-awareness.

Locations

The Psychoanalytic Clinic is composed of individual private practices. Treatment takes place in therapists’ offices throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
