The Fellowship Program seeks to introduce mentalhealth professionals to psychoanalytic thinking and treatment. Fellows will:
- Participate in didactic seminars
- Take part in a case conference presentation of an ongoing psychoanalytic case by an advanced candidate and discussed by a senior analyst
- Be mentored by a practicing analyst in the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis

MENTORING
All participants are assigned a mentor who is a practicing analyst or a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and is a member of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. Mentoring runs throughout the program and includes individual meetings to discuss issues related to psychoanalytic training, practice, and treatment. Participants are also invited to attend our monthly scientific meetings and other programs offered by the Center and may be eligible for Center membership.
FACULTY
Yvonne De Cuir, Ph.D. is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Washington, D.C. She is an instructor on the faculty of the adult training program of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, a core faculty member of the Modern Perspectives on Psychotherapy Program of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She is co-chair of the Fellowship Program.
Deborah Feldheim, M.D. is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Rockville, MD. She is an instructor on the faculty of the adult training program of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, a core faculty member of the Modern Perspectives of Psychotherapy Program, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University School of Medicine. She is co-chair of the Fellowship Program.
Richard Fritsch, Ph.D. is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Chevy Chase, MD. He currently is Professorial Lecturer at the Clinical Psy.D. Program at George Washington University and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is a Supervising and Training Analyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, and is also on the faculty of the Modern Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis.
Diana Martin, M.D. is a board certified psychiatrist and an advanced candidate at the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. She was a family physician in Northern Virginia for many years, prior to changing specialties and completing a psychiatry residency at St. Elizabeths Hospital in 2007. She now has a private practice in adult psychiatry in Dupont Circle.
Louis Spitz, M.D. is Training and Supervising analyst at Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. He is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown and George Washington Medical School Departments of Psychiatry. His private practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis is at Dupont Circle.
Ernest Wallwork, Ph.D. is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Washington, D.C. and Syracuse, New York. He is an Associate Instructor on the faculty of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute and Professor of Ethics at Syracuse University and SUNY Health Science Center. He is the author of Psychoanalysis and Ethics.
Karen Weise, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and child/adolescent psychoanalyst with a private practice in Washington DC. She is an instructor at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, a faculty member at the Washington School of Psychiatry, and Assistant Professor at Argosy University Psy.D. program.
Robert Winer, M.D. is a psychoanalyst and couple and family psychotherapist in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a teaching analyst, Co-Chair of the New Directions Program, and Chair of the Modern Perspectives on Psychotherapy Program of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. He is the author of Close Encounters, A Relational View of the Therapeutic Process.
