The Washington Psychoanalytic Clinic has been providing psychoanalysis for adults, adolescents and children in the Washington area for over sixty years. In addition, psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children is offered through the Psychotherapy Referral Service. Referral for medication, couples therapy, family therapy and supportive therapy is also available.
The Psychoanalytic Clinic, which has been in existence for sixty years, has dual functions - to provide affordable psychoanalysis, consultation, evaluation and referral services to the community and to develop a readily available source of appropriate analytic cases for our candidates and other clinic associates. The candidates who monitor the clinic phones offer appropriate referrals to all callers, whether or not they can benefit from psychoanalysis. The goals of the Clinic are:
- To disseminate the benefits of psychoanalytic treatment; to describe, explain and distinguish the psychoanalytic process from other forms of therapy; and to demonstrate by way of the intake process, understanding, empathic listening, genuineness and critical thinking in focus with the caller's perceived needs and interests;
- To describe our Institute and Clinic, and in whatever way relevant, to increase our visibility and reliability in thecommunity.
- To make appropriate referrals matching the patient to available analysts.
- To make other necessary referrals as needed.
- To further establish and promote ourselves as important resources for education, treatment, evaluation and training.
This year, we have a printed brochure about the Psychoanalytic Clinic and Psychotherapy Referral Service for our members to distribute in their office reception areas. Please contact the Center office if you would like a quantity of these brochures.
